Between 2011 and 2013, the mysterious disappearance of tubas from a high school in Southern California puzzled the community. While many focused on the missing instruments, filmmaker Alison O’Daniel saw a different question: how does the soundscape change when a sound disappears? From this absence, the documentary expands into a reflection on the very nature of sound and the meaning of listening. Exploring the experiences of Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, the film proposes new ways of perceiving sound and constructing meaning, challenging our relationship with listening and the sonic world around us.
