NULL ADJUSTMENTS

Shot on 16mm film, “Null Adjustments” follows the restoration of the historic Buchla 100 preserved at the Library of Congress, one of the most influential synthesizers in the history of electronic music and originally used by Morton Subotnick to compose “Silver Apples of the Moon”. More than documenting a technical process, first-time director Andrew Northrop dwells on surfaces, the marks left by time and the small gestures of restoration that give voice back to an instrument that helped shape the history of sonic creation. A film that shows that preserving also means listening again.
