A Bright Nowhere follows Eddie Prévost’s residency at Cafe OTO in 2022, marking his 80th birthday. Held over 4 days, each one showing a different facet that makes the bulk of Eddie’s vast catalogue of work, each with a different cast of invited musicians, culminating in the very last performance of AMM - a goodbye to the quiet titans of UK experimental improv music. The film features performances from each day, interspersing live footage with interviews of the featured musicians speaking their thoughts on what improvised music means to them.
Despite the variety of views and opinions, one thing all musicians share is that they view improvisation as a way of living, a means to combat the rigid restrictions imposed on the human spirit. By listening and striving to be present at every moment, Eddie Prévost and his fellow musicians seek to embody a path of being, making a journey to a bright nowhere.
