
In the mountains of West Papua, a new generation of musicians is transforming the Wisisi tradition into a distinctive electronic language, combining ancestral instruments, rhythms and rituals with computers, mobile phones and music production software. Following Nikolas, Asep and other young creators, “Wisisi Nit Meke” reveals a scene that has developed beyond the reach of the music industry, where circulation via Bluetooth, YouTube and informal sharing networks gives rise to an unexpected cultural affirmation and a new way of giving voice to communities that are too often marginalised.
