PUNK UNDER COMMUNIST REGIME

Between 1977 and 1985, a group of teenagers turned Ljubljana into one of the most unlikely epicentres of European punk. What began as a spontaneous expression of youthful nonconformity soon attracted the attention of a regime unaccustomed to dissent, triggering a wave of repression that would ultimately make the Slovenian punk scene one of the first major countercultural movements in socialist Yugoslavia. Bringing together archival footage and first-hand accounts from those who lived it, the film revisits a moment when a music scene born out of youthful urgency and curiosity came to reveal a profound political significance.
